In December 1941, one week before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Civil Air Patrol was founded by more than 150,000 citizens who were concerned about the defense of America’s coastline. Under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Forces, CAP pilots flew more than 500,000 hours, were credited with sinking two enemy submarines and rescued hundreds of crash survivors during World War II. On July 1, 1946, President Harry Truman established CAP as a federally chartered benevolent civilian corporation, and Congress passed Public Law 557 on May 26, 1948. CAP was charged with three primary missions – aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services.
With the passage of Public Law 106-398 in October 2000, Congress provided that “The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer civilian auxiliary of the Air Force when the services of the Civil Air Patrol are used by any department or agency in any branch of the federal government.”
CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 100+ lives in fiscal year 2010. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the more than 25,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
Group 3 of the Ohio Wing of the Civil Air Patrol is located in the north-east portion of Ohio has over 200 members in 7 subordinate units.
We have received several emails for OHWG Licensees asking why Ops Quals doesn't show that they are licensed. E-services is only able to acknowledge permits that have been issued through the new e-services system. Your paper-permit is still presently valid. It's simply that NHQ is unaware that you are licensed.
OHWG has decided that it would be best if all of our drivers could be recognized as such by NHQ ASAP. Therefore, on 31 July, 2012, all paper-permits will become INVALID. Sometime between now and then, you must acquire an e-services permit. It's not difficult and you can find all of the instructions including how to get your free abstract/driver's record, on the Wing Website. Click on "Transportation" on the left and everything you need to know is right there.
If you should encounter any problems or you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be glad to assist you.
After 31 July, 2012, your will be required to carry your 101 card and your state driver's permit at anytime you are driving a CAP vehicle.

Just a reminder if anyone needs a briefing to get current:
For any members who need to get current on their Safety Briefing before their regular meeting, missed the meeting, or used up all of the safety briefings that National has put out, there is a quick solution to that.
I have been working with the Ohio Wing IT (Capt Paul Creed), and he designed a page link in the Ohio Wing web site. Just go to the Ohio Wing web site scroll down to Safety (on the left hand side of the page) click on that and scroll down and you will see the link, click that and it will bring up a briefing for you to read, answer the questions and submit, it will then be recorded and you will again be current.
Remember if you are NOT CURRENT you MAY NOT participate in any CAP functions until CURRENCY is met.
You will have to log on with your Ohio Wing email and password.
If you have any questions on this please myself or Lt Col Yarborough (Asst OHWG/SE).
Please join me in congratulating Beth McGail, OH-197, on her promotion to Captain effective 10 May 2012. Captain McGail was promoted ahead of her peers for taking on an area of great responsibility as Ohio Wing Director of Finance. Captain McGail's promotion is in accordance with CAPR 35-5.
